I've held onto this book since first reading it in , through moves local and trans-Pacific when hundreds of other books were given away, knowing it was too special to me as a reader, and eventually a writer, to let go/5. Nine men, from all walks of life, ultimately find their way from ocean-going ships to the stationary "imprisonment" of a lightship--a kind of lighthouse afloat-- a few miles off of Washington state's treacherous Umatilla Reef. The number of girls attending our dinners vary between 3 all Australian but me. As I joined Cited by: We bought this book as soon as it was available because Brian Floca's book, "Racecar Alphabet" was our favourite. Now, with "Lightship" we have two favourites at bedtime. I can't recommend this book highly enough. The illustrations are lovely and fun. The story is educational and interesting, but to me, "Lightship" is the story of steadfastness.5/5(5).
